We live in a challenging world and our life’s journey can be difficult at times. There are ups and downs and potholes along the way. Sometimes we have to choose a certain direction when we’re really not sure of the best way forward, or perhaps past events have left us lacking confidence or feeling lost. Life can quite simply feel overwhelming.
You really don't have to struggle alone. Counselling can be the first step towards change, helping you to take control of your journey, supporting you to move forward with the confidence to deal with life’s challenges and to move towards a more positive future. Putting you in the driving seat.
I would be delighted to be part of your journey, to provide support when things perhaps feel just too difficult.

I am a highly experienced counsellor and work with a broad range of client issues. I draw on a framework of different therapeutic models, including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), using them creatively and flexibly in order to meet your specific needs and personal circumstances. My approach is centred on offering a friendly, safe, non-judgemental space for you to pause and to explore your thoughts and feelings. I can offer you coping strategies to help in your day to day life, whilst working with you to gain insight into how you might move forward with more confidence.
I am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy and work to its code of ethics, ensuring I do the very best I can for my clients. I also provide clinical supervision to both qualified and trainee counsellors.
Starting therapy can be daunting, especially if you have never experienced it before. There are lots of practising counsellors to choose from and it's really important that you find the right one for you. You need someone with whom you feel you can work, someone who will really listen to you and who will do their very best to understand your world.
My aim is to put you at ease in the first session. We will discuss how counselling works and key aspects of the therapeutic relationship, for example, maintaining confidentiality. We will also explore in more detail what it is that's brought you to therapy.
If you know what it is you'd like to achieve from counselling we will explore that too. If you don't know, that's absolutely fine; clients don't always explicitly know what they want to achieve. Sometimes it's as simple as 'feeling normal again'.
If there are lots of different things going on in your life, we can look at what you might want to work on first. If you're not sure, I can guide you with what I think might be the best approach.
Young people attend sessions without a parent or carer present and confidentiality is managed in the same way as it is for adults.

I offer both face to face and online or telephone counselling.
I am more than happy to be flexible with arranging sessions. They don't always have to be on the same day and time, giving you more flexibility in fitting therapy around your other commitments.
I offer an introductory telephone call (up to 15 minutes), free of charge, so that you can ask me any questions you may have. It also gives me an opportunity to find out a bit more about what's going on for you and to see how I might best be able to help. The initial telephone call can be particularly helpful if you're feeling anxious about making contact or starting therapy. My hope is that you'll feel less anxious after we've spoken.
After the initial call there is no obligation for you to set up sessions. If you decide that you wish to proceed, we can then set up your first session and take it from there. There is no obligation to have a certain number of sessions or to pay for a block of sessions in advance, although you may do this if you wish. Generally, you pay for each session as you have it.
You're in control of how many sessions you book, having as many or as few as you feel is right for you.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about how counselling works, or to arrange an introductory call. This enables us to discuss the reasons you are thinking of coming to counselling, whether it could be helpful for you and whether I am the right therapist to help.
You can also call me on 07934 867540 if you would prefer to leave a message or speak to me first. I am happy to discuss any queries or questions you may have prior to arranging an initial appointment.
All enquires are usually answered within 24 hours, and all contact is strictly confidential and uses secure phone and email services.
